Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

Cascade Heights, Royal Life Centers’ outpatient rehab facility in Mead, WA, offers a comprehensive 12-week drug and alcohol rehabilitation program designed to support guests on their journey to recovery. Using holistic, evidence-based practices, we focus on healing the mind, body, and spirit to promote lasting wellness. Our programs are designed to ease the transition back into the community following medical detox and residential inpatient care. After completing partial hospitalization, guests move into our intensive outpatient program (IOP), which provides a structured and supportive environment for a gradual return to daily life. With personalized care tailored to each individual’s recovery needs, Cascade Heights empowers guests to build a strong foundation for lasting recovery.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

Our intensive outpatient program (IOP) is specifically designed for individuals who have completed inpatient treatment and PHP and need continued support as they transition back into their daily lives. The focus of IOP is to offer a step-down level of care, acting as a bridge between PHP  and traditional outpatient treatment.

For this reason, IOP provides progressively less restrictive treatment as guests work towards their recovery goals. It also allows for the development of a strong support system within the community, as guests attend treatment sessions while living at home or in sober living.

IOP Phase 1 is designed to support guests as they transition back into daily life and navigate external stressors in a less structured environment after rehab. This phase focuses on fostering independence, accountability, and personal growth. Key areas of support include:

  • Building self-sufficiency through rent payments and fulfilling responsibilities in sober living environments
  • Developing healthy coping mechanisms, including emotional regulation, stress management, effective communication, and mindfulness
  • Strengthening life skills and cultivating a sense of purpose in recovery
  • Gaining job readiness by learning resume writing, work etiquette, interview techniques, and essential skills to secure employment

IOP Phase 2 focuses on guiding guests toward a less restrictive level of care while helping them reintegrate into the community and maintain accountability through employment. This phase is designed to support guests by:

  • Adding positive habits to their daily routines to strengthen their commitment to recovery
  • Sticking to accountability measures, including curfews, random UA testing, and mandatory meeting attendance
  • Demonstrating self-sufficiency by using their additional time to secure employment or continue an active job search

At Royal Life Centers, we understand that every individual’s journey is unique. That’s why our intensive outpatient treatment programs are carefully tailored to meet each guest’s specific needs. Combining group counseling with one-on-one therapy, we are committed to providing compassionate, high-quality care that empowers each person on their path to healing.

What To Expect In Our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

The second level of care within our 12-week program is our 8-week intensive outpatient program (IOP). Cascade Height’s IOP program smoothly transitions guests from PHP into phases 1 and 2 of IOP and ends in outpatient. Phases 1 and 2 of IOP both precede traditional outpatient (OP) and sober living.

After completing PHP, guests transitioning into phase 1 of intensive outpatient are required to attend group therapy five days per week, Mon-Fri, and for three hours on Saturday. Keeping all of the same resources available to them throughout outpatient treatment, guests receive more freedoms during their time in IOP.

In the second phase of IOP, group therapy attendance lessens to three days per week, three hours per day. As guests navigate IOP, they practice applying life skills. To prepare for recovery outside treatment, guests build stress management, job readiness, and relapse prevention plans into their daily routine. These healthy behaviors begin within group and individual therapy and continue to encourage and uplift their sustainability in recovery.

Practicing Self-Sufficiency in IOP

Our IOP program is led by our team of experienced therapists and addiction specialists who provide personalized treatment plans tailored to meet each guest’s specific needs. Knowing that everyone has unique challenges and experiences, we believe each guest requires individualized care to achieve lasting recovery.

During IOP, guests will continue to engage in individual therapy sessions, group counseling, and educational workshops. These therapeutic sessions are designed to address key components of addiction recovery, such as relapse prevention, coping skills, communication techniques, stress management, and other group-specific topics.

In addition to traditional therapy methods, we also incorporate holistic approaches such as mindfulness practices, yoga, and meditation to promote overall well-being and address the mind-body connection in recovery. We believe that by addressing all aspects of a person’s life, we can help them achieve sustainable sobriety.

Our team also works closely with family members and loved ones to provide support and education on how to best support their loved one in recovery. We understand that addiction not only affects the individual struggling, but also impacts their relationships and support system. Through family therapy sessions, we aim to strengthen these relationships and promote a healthy support system for our guests.

Sober Living In IOP

During IOP, many of our guests choose to continue living with their peers as they transition through our outpatient programs by residing in our on-property sober houses. This housing option is available to those who have completed inpatient treatment, providing a seamless transition into the next phase of recovery.

Our sober housing offers fully furnished apartments or homes equipped with cable and internet, all at an affordable weekly rent. This setup not only provides a comfortable living environment but also fosters a sense of responsibility by modeling bill payments and budgeting practices. Guests also benefit from the safety and support of sober living staff nearby, ensuring a secure and encouraging atmosphere.

Once in IOP, sober living guests begin paying rent. By separating rent from the total treatment price, Royal Life Centers’ Sober Housing becomes the first financial accountability measure. In this way, rent payments act as a small-scale re-introduction to the responsibilities that accompany self-sufficiency in society. Additionally, guests regularly complete drug tests, receiving another source of accountability in early recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions

Paying rent for sober housing begins after we help you find employment during PHP.  This includes guests participating in intensive outpatient and outpatient treatment.

IOP is typically 8 weeks long, but can be extended on a case-by-case basis.

Cascade Heights provides two separate sobering living options within our treatment program, Royal Life Housing and Graduate Housing, to ensure the appropriate amount of care and surveillance is given to each and every guest.

Those who are navigating through an earlier stage of recovery require a higher level of care than our guests who have solidified their recovery resolve in outpatient treatment. For instance, Royal guests entering PHP benefit greatly from the accountability measures provided in Royal Life Housing as they are still transitioning from residential care to partial hospitalization.

We are dedicated to providing the safest and most beneficial level of care within our treatment programs and transitional housing services. With that being said, we also acknowledge that our guests in our outpatient program prosper in less restrictive environments which is why we provide our Graduate House for those in OP.

Royal Life Centers’ addiction treatment network offers a full continuum of care throughout our rehab centers in Washington state and Arizona. This means we offer rehabilitation services during medical detox, residential inpatient, PHP, IOP, outpatient, and sober living.
